I love wisteria. I have mine on an arbor and it covers the front of the house. Mine is about 5 years old, has not bloomed yet. I used to have one that covered the entire front of my house and it was so beautiful when it bloomed..sadly, my house burned to the ground and the wisteria was gone as well. But now I have the new one and it is thriving.

lol yes, you have to be harsh with plants, shrubs, bushes, trees, etc.
we've had an apple tree (northern spy) for a number of years and it's done nothing...i kid you not, and we talked about cutting it down as it wasn't doing anything. About 3 years ago i had read somewhere you have to beat it (yes, i said 'beat' it...as in hit it, whack at it...). so that spring i took the ball bat and walked over to it. the tree had to have been oh...maybe 13 by that time... and not one single apple. Adam asked me 'what are you doing'..and about that time, it was the wind up and swing. Man did i get a strange look and yelled at. (after about 3 or 4 more hits...lol) Ever since we've had bushels of apples off that tree!!! And he's the first to tell anyone that i'm the 'tree beater'...lol but it worked.
so i'll agree with ya MEW, you have to be harsh and let the plant know who's boss.

Your picture is gone. I would love to see it. I love Wisteria. Some people say it is more trouble than worth but I don't think so. I had one for 4 yrs that had one tiny bloom on and I was so excited. I have read that if it isn't blooming when you go shopping for one to wait until you actually see one blooming. I tried everything to get this thing to bloom. Did research, special food, everything, finally one tiny bloom but OH did that one smell so good. Next one at another house after we sold that one I made sure that it was blooming before I bought it. Did I say that I Love Wisteria.

Here in the deep south, wisteria is a weed. DH sprays it because it climbs our trees and destroys them. Kind of like kudzu it is. True, in the spring it is beautiful, but that only lasts a short time.

In So Md it grows wild and we got ours when dh took me back to So Md to put flowers on my parents grave. We were driving down the road past an old friend of my parents' farm and dh said I sure do like those flowers - what kind of tree is that. I had him stop and told him to go ahead and dig up a piece. He was sure the owner would be mad. I told he was doing them a favor digging it up. Here is a pic of ours when it is blooming:
My cousin is a horticulturist and says wisteria is very picky about its weather...So maybe the weather in the south is the kind of weather it likes. I rarely see one here in Oklahoma blooming.
